Wuthering Waves Excites Steam Deck Gamers

Posted on July 19, 2025

Steam Deck Compatibility for Wuthering Waves

Nearly four months after the release of Wuthering Waves on Steam, Kuro Games has made the game compatible with the Steam Deck. This is a significant development for fans who want to enjoy the title while on the move. The update comes just in time for a major content release scheduled for July 24, which promises to bring a variety of new features and improvements.

The initial compatibility issues with the Steam Deck were first reported in April when the game launched on Steam. Players attempting to run the game on Valve’s handheld console faced an Anti-Cheat Expert (ACE) error that prevented them from logging in. Kuro Games acknowledged the problem and assured players that they would work on resolving the issue as quickly as possible.

Now, ahead of Wuthering Waves Update 2.5, it seems that Kuro Games has successfully addressed the compatibility concerns. The game is now considered “playable” on the Steam Deck, though some manual adjustments may still be required for optimal performance. The developers have also ensured that the game no longer encounters ACE errors or other critical issues. Additionally, the game supports cross-progression, allowing players to log into their accounts on the Steam Deck and access their save files seamlessly.

Competitive Edge Through Multi-Platform Support

While Wuthering Waves may not yet have the same level of popularity as some of its competitors, such as Genshin Impact, its multi-platform presence could give it a significant advantage. Many top-performing gacha RPGs lack strong support across different platforms. For example, Genshin Impact is not even available on Steam, let alone compatible with the Steam Deck.

By responding swiftly to fan requests and making the game playable on the Steam Deck, Wuthering Waves is positioning itself as a more accessible option for players who prefer mobile gaming. This move could help attract a broader audience and increase the game’s appeal.

Strong Performance Across Platforms

So far, Wuthering Waves has performed well on Steam, with around 10,000 concurrent daily players and a positive average review score from over 18,000 reviews. The game has also been successful on other platforms, particularly Sony’s PlayStation 5. It launched on the PS5 in January and has since received over 22,000 positive reviews on the PlayStation Store, with an average score of 4.33.

According to reports, Wuthering Waves generated nearly $40 million in revenue for Kuro Games in June alone. Since its launch, the game has reportedly earned close to $170 million, a remarkable achievement for the Chinese developer. The new Steam Deck compatibility is expected to further boost revenue by attracting more players.

Cross-Platform Progression and Future Prospects

One of the key advantages of Wuthering Waves is its support for cross-platform progression. This feature allows players to continue their progress on different devices, making it easier for them to play on the go. In the competitive video game industry, this kind of flexibility can make a big difference in player retention and satisfaction.

As Kuro Games continues to expand the reach of Wuthering Waves, the game is well-positioned to maintain its momentum. With ongoing updates, improved compatibility, and a growing player base, Wuthering Waves is proving to be a strong contender in the gacha game market.
