Summer Fun in Hull: Outdoor Pools and Water Play Areas
As the school year comes to an end and summer begins, families in Hull have a variety of options to stay cool and enjoy some fun in the water. From splash parks to paddling pools, there are several venues across the city that offer refreshing activities for children and adults alike.
Popular Outdoor Swimming Pools and Water Play Areas
Albert Avenue Lido
This facility has undergone a major renovation with a £10.5 million investment. The lido features a heated outdoor swimming pool and a water play area, making it a great spot for families to enjoy throughout the season.
Alderman Kneeshaw Park
The park offers a seasonal water play area that is open from 10:00 to 17:00 BST, starting from the beginning of June until early September.
Bude Park
Another seasonal splash park, Bude Park is also open from 10:00 to 17:00 daily during the same timeframe.
East Park Splash Pad – Closed
Despite its appeal, East Park’s splash pad will not be open this summer. An inspection revealed issues with the surface quality, requiring a complete refurbishment before it can reopen.
Ings Road Park
The water play area at Ings Road Park is open daily during the school summer holidays, from 10:00 to 17:00.
Oak Road Park
This park features an outdoor paddling pool that is accessible during the summer holiday period, operating from 10:00 to 17:00 daily.
Pickering Park Paddling Pool – Closed
The paddling pool at Pickering Park was closed in 2023 due to health and safety concerns. Although it was expected to reopen for the current summer, it remains closed as of now.
West Park
Dating back to 1885, West Park includes a seasonal water play area and a paddling pool. The facilities are open from 10:00 to 17:00, with operations ending at the start of September.
Important Safety Information
The local council has issued several safety guidelines for visitors to these facilities:
- Supervision: Children must be supervised at all times while using the water areas.
- Appropriate Clothing: Swimmers should wear suitable attire, including swimming nappies, trunks, or costumes.
- No Pets: Dogs are not allowed in the pool or pool enclosure.
- No Food or Drink: Bringing food or beverages into the facility is prohibited.
- No Glassware: Glass bottles or any glass items must not be brought into the pool area.
- No Running or Equipment: Running, skateboards, roller skates, bicycles, or similar equipment are not permitted in the pool area.
- Paddling Pools: Shallow paddling pools are not meant for swimming or diving.
