Soulframe Developments and Future Features
Digital Extremes recently concluded its TennoCon 2025 livestream, offering fans a comprehensive look at the future of Warframe and its upcoming sequel, Soulframe. The event provided in-person and remote attendees with hours of announcements, including new gameplay footage, cosmetics, and updates for 2025. This year’s event highlighted the continued growth of both titles as Digital Extremes prepares for more story expansions for Warframe and the eventual launch of Soulframe.
Soulframe remains in development but has seen significant progress, with Digital Extremes sharing a new gameplay deep dive during the event. Similar to the previous year’s presentation, this year’s session gave fans an inside look at the team’s progress, emphasizing improvements and features that are being refined.
One key aspect of Soulframe is its extensive customization options, which Digital Extremes plans to carry over from Warframe. During the preview event, CEO Steve Sinclair mentioned that the game now supports casting playstyles and archery playstyles, offering players more choices beyond close combat. Additionally, the team is exploring other options, including sidearms, and has confirmed that two-handed weapons will be included in future updates.
The TennoCon 2025 Soulframe gameplay showcase began with a conversation with Verminia, a quest-giver and customization NPC. Fans were able to witness an Envoy ability that allows players to transform into a blue butterfly, enabling them to connect with nature and sneak up on enemies. The demo also showcased the Neath’uns underground and a fight against a three-headed, corrupted foe known as The Waste Bear.
Players in the current build can also cast green magic from a distance, and the combat shown in the demo is described as “more casual” than previous versions. Players have the freedom to use a staff or other tools to hurl energy at their foes.
Geoff Crookes, Soulframe Creative Director, shared insights about the game’s development, noting that over a year of player feedback has led to many lessons and new features. He mentioned improvements in combat fluidity and the introduction of player social hubs and asynchronous messaging through World Trees. The latest Preludes build includes these updates and more, with promises of further innovations.
During a press Q&A session, Digital Extremes discussed potential future updates for Soulframe, including extended open Preludes periods. While no official plans have been announced, the idea remains under consideration if development progresses smoothly.
Warframe: The Old Peace
Following a week of teasers and community excitement, Digital Extremes revealed that the next major Warframe narrative chapter is titled The Old Peace. Centered around a peaceful time in the past, this chapter is expected to launch later this year. Gameplay footage showcases remastered looks for Tenno Operators as they move between the present and the past. One notable segment features a playable version of Excalibur Prime, a Warframe previously available only to early adopters.
A teaser for the content was released alongside the demo debut, hinting at a long-forgotten tale involving Tau, Adis, and a conflict between the Orokin and Dax Anarch Warriors on the Perita moon. The Old Peace will also feature a side story called The Devil’s Triad, introducing two new Protoframes for Harrow and Wisp. This story will also introduce Uriel, a new Warframe inspired by the devil, with glowing red highlights and an unknown set of abilities.
The chapter promises a mysterious new faction and a Tauros Focus expansion with a new Operator ultimate ability. Digital Extremes is also releasing a new song, Lullaby of the Manifold, for free on YouTube, which will be available on most music platforms starting July 21, 2025.
Additional Warframe Content for 2025
Beyond The Old Peace, Digital Extremes has several other projects in the works for 2025. Valkyr will receive her Heirloom cosmetic bundle on July 21, created in collaboration with community artist Pertti Bahaa. The Warframe team is also partnering with Paizo to create Warframe x Starfinder: Operation Orias, set for release this October.
An unspecified fall update, dubbed the “Untitled Fall Update,” will include a ground-up rework for Oberon, a Lavos deluxe skin, and the 62nd Warframe. A new tutorial quest called The Teacher aims to streamline the Mod system introduction for new players. More details about the update will be revealed during the September Devstream.
Other planned features include a Warframe Android closed beta in the fall and Caliban Prime access, which was briefly featured during the The Old Peace gameplay showcase. Regarding a Nintendo Switch 2 port, CEO Steve Sinclair expressed excitement about utilizing the console’s power, though the team needs dev kits to proceed.
TennoCon’s 10-Year Celebration
As part of the TennoCon 2025 festivities, the 10th anniversary was celebrated with reflections from Warframe Creative Director Rebecca Ford. She highlighted the journey of the event since its inception in 2016 and expressed gratitude for the community’s support. Ford emphasized that the celebration would continue, bringing together players globally to share the latest updates and enjoy the world of Warframe.
